Jonathan Barrow
Thackray Fellow 2021-22

Specialist areas: Primary hip and knee arthroplasty, Revision hip arthroplasty, Lower limb metastatic bone service, Periprosthetic joint infection, Periprostheitc fracture, Endoprosthetic joint replacement, Trauma surgery
Background: Jonathan qualified from Leeds University in 2010. He underwent his Specialty Orthopaedic training in the North West and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2019.
He undertook the Cavendish Fellowship in Sheffield under the leadership of Mr Andrew Hamer and Mr Robert Kerry, focusing on complex hip and knee revision surgery with a sub-specialist interest in infection and endoprosthetic surgery. Jonathan returned to Wrightington in 2021 to undertake the Thackray Fellowship, under the mentorship of Mr Anil Gambhir and Prof. Tim Board, to further his ability in revision arthroplasty and complex reconstruction.
Joanthan visited specialist centres for infection, including the ENDO-Klinik in Hamburg, Germany. He is well published and has presented his work in several meetings nationally.

Khalid Malik
Thackray Fellow 2022-23

Current Post: Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon - East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust
Specialist areas: Primary hip and knee arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, prosthetic joint infection, periprosthetic fracture, extremity trauma.
Background: Khalid completed his medical degree from Imperial College London in 2012. He undertook his Specialty Orthopaedic training in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex deanery. Khalid was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2021 and completed his training (CCT) in 2022.
Khalid undertook his post-CCT fellowship at the Wrightington Hospital under the tutelage of Anil Gambhir and Tim Board. During this period, his main areas of focus were hip and knee revision arthroplasty, prosthetic joint infections and peri-prosthetic trauma.
Khalid has received numerous awards (teaching, management and leadership) and prizes (best presentations at conferences) during his training. He was also the recipient of the BHS and Sir John Charnley Trust travelling fellowship bursary. Following the completion of his fellowship, he was appointed as a hip and knee revision arthroplasty consultant at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.

Jonathan N Lamb (Josh)

Specialist areas: Primary hip and knee arthroplasty, revision hip and knee arthroplasty, prosthetic joint infection, periprostheitc fracture, young adult hip, academic orthopaedics.
Background: Josh completed a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science at University of Bath in 2004. He subsequently attended St George’s University London to study medicine.
He undertook his higher specialty training in orthopaedics in the Yorkshire and The Humber deanery. During his specialty training, he completed a PhD on periprosthetic femoral fractures at the University of Leeds. His research entailed analysis of large data sets, statistical modelling, image analysis and mechanical testing of implants. His reserach work was supported by the Sir John Charnley Trust, The National Joint Registry, AO UK and MeDe.
Following completion of his training (CCT) in 2022, Josh travelled to New Zealand to undertake a 12-month fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty at Te Whatu Ora Waikato, Hamilton, Waikato under the mentorship of Mr Neville Strick. Josh is an accomplished academic. He has over 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented his work nationally and internationally.

Ed Dickenson
Thackray Fellow 2023-24
Qualifications: MB ChB, PhD, FRCS
Future Post: Appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (Oswestry)
Background: Ed qualified from Leicester Medical School in 2009 and completed Specialist Orthopaedic Training on the Warwick Programme. During his specialist training he took time out to complete a period of research during which he ran the UK FASHIoN Trial and was awarded a PhD titled ’The Epidemiology of Femoro acetabular Impingement Syndrome’. Ed maintains an academic interest and is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Warwick University. He has over 40 peer reviewed publications with over 2000 citations. Having being awarded a certificate of completion of training in 2023, Ed completed fellowships in Young Adult Hip Surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham under the tutelage of Mr Callum McBryde.
In his free time Ed enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, watching rugby and cricket, and he holds a private pilots license.
